Henderson took the decision to sever ties with Liverpool in July 2023, with efforts to earn a European Championship spot cited among his reasons for joining Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League. A stint in the Middle East lasted just six months before agreeing to the termination of his contract and returning to Europe at Eredivisie giants Ajax.
