Jack Ross has revealed the reason Duncan Watmore is still yet to return from injury, as the Sunderland winger is expected to miss another couple of weeks of action after suffering a thigh problem.
What’s the word?
The injury bug has cursed Watmore perhaps more than anyone you’re ever likely to find, and you really have to feel for the 25 year-old.
He suffered an ACL injury in December 2016, and ruptured ligaments in the same knee shortly after returning to action in November 2017.

As reported by The Chronicle, he has only featured 15 times in all competitions since that initial injury, and now Ross has revealed the hold-up in his return this time.
“He’s frustrated because he’s had this thigh injury and he trained on Monday, Tuesday last week and looked good, but just felt uncomfortable after training on Tuesday,” Ross said.
“I’d imagine he’ll miss the next two to three weeks again at least and then we’ll go from there. It’s difficult for him because it’s been very stop-start for him for a long time.”
Running out of time
When Watmore burst onto the scene at Sunderland, it seemed like the Black Cats had a dynamic young star in the making.
He scored 11 times in 19 games for the U21 side and was named the U21 Premier League player of the season in 2014/15, before scoring on his league debut for the senior side.
The youngster was then handed a four-year deal to stay at the Stadium of Light, only to miss two months with an ankle issue before eventually suffering that first big knee injury.
Since then, things have gone from bad to worse, and it is now really quite hard to see a path back for the winger.
Fans will have to hope he does not suffer any further setbacks over the next few weeks as he recovers from this thigh issue – he is out of contract next summer, and is undoubtedly running out of chances to earn a new deal.
